The Lightbox is shortlisted for a Fantastic for Families Award
The Lightbox gallery and museum in Woking believes
that art has the power to make you feel good. It runs community programmes that
aim to improve the wellbeing and quality of life of participants who would not
usually be able to access arts and heritage services. On the 9 January 2019 it was announced that The
Lightbox has been shortlisted for the Best Age Friendly Welcome category in the
Fantastic for Families Award. The category recognises outstanding provision for
older visitors, including staff welcome, staff communication and the venue and
its facilities excelling at accommodating the needs of older people. The winner
will be announced at an awards ceremony in Liverpool on the 12 February. Please

The Lightbox has been a Dementia
Friendly Champion since 2014. It runs the initiative ‘Art in Mind’ which
provides workshops specially tailored for people with the early stages of dementia and their
care givers. These sessions seek to provide participants
with a safe and friendly environment that encourages creative expression. Supported by The
Lightbox charity and local Arts Society groups, The Lightbox community
programme aims to continue to champion wellbeing inside its galleries and
beyond, all throughout 2019.
