The Lightbox is shortlisted for a Fantastic for Families Award

The Lightbox gallery and museum in Woking believes that art has the power to make you feel good. It runs community programmes that aim to improve the wellbeing and quality of life of participants who would not usually be able to access arts and heritage services. On the 9 January 2019 it was announced that The Lightbox has been shortlisted for the Best Age Friendly Welcome category in the Fantastic for Families Award. The category recognises outstanding provision for older visitors, including staff welcome, staff communication and the venue and its facilities excelling at accommodating the needs of older people. The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony in Liverpool on the 12 February. Please support The Lightbox by casting your vote at fantasticforfamilies.com/awards

The Lightbox has been a Dementia Friendly Champion since 2014. It runs the initiative ‘Art in Mind’ which provides workshops specially tailored for people with the early stages of dementia and their care givers. These sessions seek to provide participants with a safe and friendly environment that encourages creative expression. Supported by The Lightbox charity and local Arts Society groups, The Lightbox community programme aims to continue to champion wellbeing inside its galleries and beyond, all throughout 2019.
