Paul Webster, the organiser of the Woking Means  Business exhibition, has had many years’ experience in the exhibition industry as a design consultant, contractor and organiser, running shows at the NEC, Olympia, throughout the UK and Europe. If you are new to exhibiting, this information will be invaluable and if you are more experienced it will serve as a timely reminder of things  you could very easily forget.

The award-winning Woking Food and Drink Festival returns to Woking town centre from Friday 1 to Sunday 3 September 2017. Last year, an estimated 100,000 hungry visitors flocked to the festival to meet some of the country’s top celebrity chefs and enjoyed the edible delights on offer by more than 80 providers.

This year WWF's Living Planet Centre are very pleased to be hosting a fasinating talk on English Wine and Gin with our wonderful speakers, John Mobbs and Ian McCulloch.

This year we are adding some interesting talks by experts and you are invited.



This year WWF's Living Planet Centre are very pleased to be hosting a fasinating talk on English Wine and Gin with our wonderful speakers, John Mobbs and Ian McCulloch.



For those who have time there will be some samples to taste afterwards or you can wonder across to the Town Centre to explore what is on offer at this year’s festival.



About the Speakers:


Ian McCulloch
Co-owner of Silent Pool Gin Distillers, Ian will look at the journey to success and also focus on what makes Silent Pool a sustainable business in Surrey. Silent Pool Gin is based in an extraordinary location on the Duke of Northumberland’s Albury Estate in Surrey. Ian McCulloch is a local resident who after a 30 year career in commercial TV decided to found a small local business to enjoy a slower pace of life. Since early 2015 Silent Pool Distillers is now exporting to 26 countries, is launching in the USA and Japan this summer and is rolling out across the UK with Waitrose, Majestic and M&S. They produce 4 gins, a vodka, liqueurs, schnapps, smoked salmon, run tours, have the site open 7 days a week and attend c 400 events a year. His plans for a slower pace have been put on hold.


John Mobbs
Founder of Great British Wine, John will give a general overview on what makes English Sparkling wine so good. He will also look at the key regions producing wine and then finishing off on a focus on the winemakers in Surrey.

Woking Works – a collaboration between Woking Borough Council and five leading Woking-based companies – is offering free business surgeries to those who have been trading for three years or more.

The areas of expertise being covered are:
Banking and finance: loans, mortgages, insurance, investments, savings accounts
Legal: asset and wealth protection, business disputes, compliance, leasing property, corporate governance, trustees
Marketing: electronic direct mail, design, logos, social media, printed media, video
Information technology: infrastructure, applications, data management, networking, cloud-based storage
Accountancy: Taxation, wealth management, business development, auditing, strategic advice

The five companies offering the free service are Arcom IT Solutions, Barlow Robbins Solicitors, Hamlyns Chartered Accountants, NatWest Bank and Something Big Creative Communications Agency.

Bookings for the Woking Works Business Surgeries are on a first come first served basis, at Export House, Woking at 9.30am, 10.30am and 11.30am.

As the global political and economic environment has become more challenging and increasingly competitive, it is now more imperative than ever to ensure that businesses are robust and strong enough to continue to grow and take advantage of opportunities as they arise.
The utilisation of technology is also key to being at the forefront of the national and global race for advancement, and we have partnered with the University of Surrey who will discuss the latest innovations in this space and how businesses can keep one step ahead.
During the evening, Professor Rahim Tafazolli, Director of the 5G Innovation Centre, will provide a keynote address on the future of 5G and its relevance to business, after which our panellists who will share their knowledge and learnings re attracting funding and investment, growing a business and exiting in a dynamic and interactive panel session.
The panel will consist of:
• Nigel Biggs, Entrepreneur in Residence, University of Surrey
• Simon MacDonald, Partner, RSM UK Tax & Advisory
• Zara Merricks, Principal - South East, The FD Centre
